Harley Davidson Motorcycle Jackets – The Second Most Vital Piece of Riding Gear You Can Own

Filed Under: Icon Jacket    by: Adam Hansen

Harley Davidson motorcycle jackets are second only to helmets when it comes to rider safety. While there is a host of pieces of riding gear you should have to stay safe and comfortable on the road these two are the most important. If you’ve ever taken a spill on your bike then I am preaching to the choir.

Whether you like them or not helmets keep that grey matter in between your ears, well between your ears. I’ve seen the giant crack down the center of my helmet that would have been my skull after a crash so I don’t care what the laws are, I always ride with them.

I wish I would have been more diligent with wearing a riding jacket. Sometimes it’s warm or you’re just going for a quick ride and you forget about protection Harley Davidson motorcycle jackets offer. These jackets are most usually made of high quality, thickly seamed leather which will take a lot of the road’s abuse before your skin does. Yeah, you might still end up feeling something but I’d rather burn through the leather jacket than have my arm look like Hamburger Helper leftovers.

To increase your safety and keep that skin looking as good as it does today (back hair and all) many Harley Davidson motorcycle jackets have boy armor inserts. Located in key areas around the body like the shoulder, elbow or chest body armor is synthetically developed to pad you during a fall. Maybe not as strong as it’s law enforcement name sake when it comes to stopping bullets, this body armor gives you more wiggle room when you go down.

Harley Davidson Leather Jackets – The Iconic Piece of Motorcycle Apparel

Filed Under: Icon Jacket    by: Adam Hansen

When you think of motorcycles you eventually end up picturing the iconic selection Harley Davidson leather jackets.  These jackets have become synonymous with the rebel, outlaw, individual, freethinker and part of the American image.  While not only motorcycle riders wear leather jackets the connection has been forever ingrained in our psyche by movies, TV and literature.

Who doesn’t think of Marlon Brando in “The Wild One” when you think of motorcycles and leather jackets?  This movie introduced the idea of the rampaging outlaw biker to the masses and helped fuel the fire behind the rise of clubs like the Hells Angels.  The fear, awe and over hyped press the Angles got in their early days were a direct result of “The Wild Ones”.  This bad press led the head of the American Motorcycle Association to make his famous statement that “99% of motorcycle riders are law abiding citizens.”  The outlaw clubs proudly embraced this and labeled themselves as “1%ers”.  You’ll commonly find them wearing this patch on their jackets.

While most bikers are not outlaws many embrace the fashion and aggressive look of these notorious groups.  Harley Davidson jackets have become common amongst bikers and non-riders alike.  You’ll commonly see wives and girlfriends who never ride sporting these jackets just because they complete the look.

While fashion and image may be a motivating factor for many when it comes to buying a jacket, Harley Davidson leather jackets are a smart and sensible purchase.  Not only do they look cool but the thick durable leather acts like a protection from the elements and the road if you go down.  A top quality jacket could mean the difference between you having skin on your upper body or not.
